Garry Howard is a police officer. He is a member of the Active Shooter Response Team. He began his training in Active Shooter response in 1999. Garry has been studying Active Shooter attacks since that time. He has been a member of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Observer/Sniper Team for 13 years. In the past he served as a member of the High Risk Warrant Service Team. Garry instructs police officers in the skills of close quarter combat.
Garry began his law enforcement career in 1978 as a Special Agent with the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations and has been involved in security since that time. Upon separation from the Air Force Garry became a Police Officer with the Brazil, Indiana Police Department (BPD). During his time with BPD he was involved in a high speed pursuit, shootout and subsequent apprehension of an individual on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List. Garry was awarded a Silver Star for his action by the city of Brazil. During his tenure with BPD Garry served as the Firearms Instructor. In 1991, he was appointed Special Deputy with the CCSO. On March 1, 2005 he became the Knightsville, Indiana Town Marshal. Garry continues to serve in both roles.
